In the 1930's, the Detroit News pioneered the use of high speed aerial photography with this aircraft named Early Bird. The camera was mounted in a wing pod and controlled by the pilot. After landing at Detroit City Airport, the film would then be rushed to the news building by motorcycle dispatch rider.
