This powerful early wooden tug sank Sep 24, 1886 eight miles north of Charity Island in Saginaw Bay Michigan.
While working a tow of four heavy lumber barges the Dobbins propeller shaft broke loose causing her to slowly sink by the stern
The crew were rescued by one of the barges with no loss of life.
There were several salvage attempts over the years, she was finally located with engine and boiler intact in 1997 in sixty feet of water.
