LeGriffon arriving at Moran Bay August 27 1679
The Griffon arrived at what is now St Ignace on August 27 1679. The long awaited ship was greeted by one hundred canoes as she dropped anchor and LaSalle went ashore. Over the next several months she sailed west to Green Bay, then disappeared as she headed back east never to be seen again.
This is one of the most intriguing stories in the history of the Great Lakes.
